December 12, 2011 lunch time when my Cebu Pacific Seat Alert on my CP informed me that there are Seat Sale dated January - March 2012... I immediately log on to www.cebupacificair.com, and found out Php88 promo. The first thing that I think is the date when can we do our travel.... Of course, it my husband's 32nd birthday on January 31... Next is the places to go, Palawan since we really like to go there or Davao so we can celebrate his birthday with his family...
As I search Davao but did not have promo available... Palawan January 28 but the only available is 3:50 PM and return date is January 31 10:00 AM... So we decided to take that promo since the amount is very cheap. Php 2,074.00 for both of us round trip.
The next thing we need to look for a tour since it will be our first time in Palawan. I contacted my tour guide friend, Harry Balais for our tour package (3D/3N Php 5, 500). The tour was provided by Hadefe Travel and Tours (http://www.hadefetravel.com/) I'm happy that we had no problem with the tour and the hotel since our friend Harry helped us. Inclusions are Hotel with breakfast and airport transfers, Underground River Tour, Honday Bay Tour
We're really excited for this Palawan trip since we really voted for the Puerto Princessa Underground River to be in the Seven Wonders of the Nature... We really want to experience the amazing nature's beauty.

January 28, 2012, the most awaited day for us to go to Palawan, Out trip is 3:50 PM...  I had worked during Saturdays so I reported to work halfday. Immediately at 12:00NN I went home from work. Me and my husband took our lunch before going to airport. We rode a Bus JAC Liner from Carmona to Magallanes and took taxi to NAIA Terminal 3. Anyway, I did our check in thru web (48 to 4 hrs before the trip) so we were not required to do check in at the airport also we have no check in baggage. We had our boarding pass pre printed with seat number already. We just checked for the gate number for boarding.Immediately we went to the payment of terminal fee and went to the boarding area. There are lot of people in the terminal. There were unavoidable circumstances like air traffic since NAIA runway is very crowded and the schedule was so hectic . Though we waited for so long we are still excited for this trip. At around 5:00 PM we departed from Manila and at 6:20 PM we arrived at Puerto Princessa Airport. We had no checked in baggage so we went out ahead of others and outside. Seen my name in the placard of our hotel La Charica Inn and Suites... Frannie and Manong driver fetch us in the airport, they were in the airport since 5:00 PM unfortunately our flight was delayed . When we were on the hotel's car there was a total darkness (Brown Out) buti na lang nauna kami lumabas. In less than 10 minutes we already arrived in the hotel. They gave us welcome drinks and do necessary check in procedure. Our hotel room was nice, double bed, aircon, tv, telephone and with hot and cold shower. We did a little rest and we are ready to explore Puerto Princessa.

Harry recommended us three restaurants for dinner Balinsasayaw, Kinabuch's and KaLui. Also halo-halo from Noki Nocs  near Capitol... Hmmm...
Operation Explore Puerto Princessa, after a rest we decided to go for a walk. Thru my Map on my phone, we searched for Rizal Avenue (where the 3 restos are located)... We walked for 15 minutes and found Balinsasayaw Chicken and Grill. The restaurant is set in a native huts and offers affordable foods. The specialties are Chicken Inasal, Bird's Nest Soup, etc... We ordered for Chicken Inasal for both of us,1.5 L coke, Balinsasayaw dessert (ube ice cream with cashew nuts and choco syrup on buko shell) and Coco Noodles (coconut meat- tastes like lumpiang hubad).  What amazes us is the bell is being used for calling the waiters, the foods are affordable and we just spent only Php 350 for our meal.
We continued walking to explore the city proper of Puerto Princessa, there lot of restaurants and night establishments. We decided to go back to hotel walking and tomorrow will be another day for us. We need to rest for the Puerto Princessa Underground River Tou.

Puerto Princessa Underground River (PPUR) Trip

On the Second day, we woke up early for our Puerto Princessa Underground River or the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park . We prepared early, breakfast was included in the hotel package. While taking our breakfast the tour guide already arrived to fetch us. Then we went to the hotels of our other companions in the tour. At 8:00 AM we were heading our way to Sabang Port where we will be travelling in a boat to reach the undergound river. We took a long bumpy roller coaster ride since the driver of our van drives very fast... As per Kuya Nelson we will be having a massage since the road is not that conrete but only soft massage also the road is curvy or zigzag . We waited for sometime in the Sabang Port since there are lot of tourists going to Underground River. It's 30 minutes boat ride, and the views while we travel was breath taking. Large rocks and nature' beauty. As we register and walking to the waiting area there are lot of monkeys roaming around. Our guide warn us to watch our belongings since monkeys grabbing some of the tourist's things. They think that the bags have foods. There are also monitor lizard and mangroove trees around.  Our permit is 10:30 but we were able to enter the Cave at around 12:30 PM. We waited for a a long time but we took advantage by taking pictures on the other part of the area. There are trees and the river's water is so green and all are amazing. The sea is connected to the river and we really enjoyed our picture taking on the rocks, sands and the beach. Unfortunately if we will wait for our number there will be breaktime for the boatman, our tour guide decided to divide our group to join other groups for us to be earlier.
We seated in the front side of the boat and were the one carrying the light (halogen light connected to a car battery). When we enter the Cave, wow we are really amaze with the beauty of the Underground river. No wonder it is included in the Seven Wonders of the World.
There are rock formations, the stalactites and the stalagmites formations are all breathtaking. Imagination is the key to this tour. The first station is the Cathedral where we seen a formations  of a cathedral, holy family, a big melting candle, face of Jesus Christ. We were really amazed but this is not all, we went to another station the Fruit and Vegetables Section. There are formations like cacao fruit, corn, baguio pechay, giant mushroom, banana heart, carrots and more... Also we've seen formation like a woman's body (named Sharon Stone), dinosour, horse, unicorn and other more. We really enjoyed our trip, the bangkero describes the formations and they had a very good sense of humor. As per them there are 3 holy in the cave. One is the holy family ( the formation), holy shit from bat's winnie the pooh pooh and the holy water from winnie the pee pee. There are too many bats at the ceiling of the cave. It takes us 45 minutes to travel 1.5 KM the cave.  The other parts of the 8KM can only be travelled or reached by diving or underwater.
At 1 PM we were heading back to Sabang Port for our filipino sumptous buffet lunch. Lunch is composed of Chicken in buko soup, grilled fish (tambakol), grilled pork chop, chicken adobo, kangkong and softdrinks. It is included in our tour. We also didn't miss the opportunity to eat Palawan's famous exotic food "Tamilok" or the wood worm but it is not actually a worm. It's a mollusk from Bakawan or Mangrove tree. 4 pcs of tamilok costs us Php 100, it was served cold with calamansi and dipped in the local vinegar with spices in short "Kinilaw". It tastes like oyster or talaba and we really enjoy that we were able to try this kind of food.
When we will be going home, heavy rain falls. We were wet but we enjoyed walking and running in the rain... We saw many people still going to the underground river, they just wore colorful plastic rain coats which cost Php 50.00. We also bought the raincoat which we will be using in our future trips.  We again had our massage but not soft but mild since our 2 companions will have a 5:00PM trip. We took the 1.5 to 2 hours trip with just 1 hr. hehehe... It's not a roller coaster ride but a space shuttle ride. This is one unique experience for us to see one of the SEVEN WONDERS OF NATURE, the Underground River also known as Puerto Princesa or Saint Paul Subterranean River National Park

Our Own Mini City Tour

When we arrived the hotel at 4:30 PM, we immediately took a bath since we were wet by the rain during our tour. Since our City Tour was not possible on this day due to time constraints, we decided to have our own tour on the nearby areas. We decided to eat halo halo near capitol at Noki Nocs (the maker of tasty halo-halo). Halo halo costs us Php 85.00 per serving, it's worth it since the halo2 is served with ube ice cream and leche flan on top. It tastes like Razons famous halo halo but more ingredients. We also ordered for mais con yelo and also yummy.
Since it's Sunday we decided to go to the church, the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral. Located on far side of Rizal Avenue, from Noki Nocs we took a tricycle going to the cathedral. There is an on going mass when we went there so we had no opportunity to take pictures in the Cathedral. The blue cathedral is eye-catching  because of its unique architectural design, the arches are pointed and towering.  It reminds me of the Manila Cathedral since they are both Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral.
Since there are too many people attending the mass we decided to just pray and wish , we believe that we will be wishing on our first time in a church and still hoping that God will grant our only one wish since then.
We decided to have a long walk so we can roam around and maybe we can find something along the way. We passed a lot of ukay ukay store, also we seen our favorite Jo's chicken Inato( but we already had restos in mind for our dinner). There are lot of establishments along Rizal Avenue, we reached the area of Tiange Tiange or the pasalubong center. We decided to check what we can buy for pasalubong there are different sized pearl earings and other accesories , shirts, key chains, cashew nuts, tarts, dried fish and a lot more. We bought some items and decided to be back again on the next days.
It's already past 7 PM and we decided to  continue our journey (walk), we were going to look for Kinabuch's Bar and Grill for dinner as per recommendation our our friend. When we reach Kinabuch's there are lot of people dining their, meaning they are famous and the food is great. It is an open bar and restaurant  which makes the ambiance relaxing. As we enter they had a big screen,  Australian Open tennis championship game is ongoing. We are looking for a table since there are lot of people waiting to be seated. We are lucky that we found seats in a short wait.
Our dinner, Sinangag ni 04 (fried rice with dried fish), Croc Adobado (crocodile meat stewed in coconut milk, seasoning and spices), sinuglaw (grilled pork with fish kinilaw in vinegar), leche flan, green mango and strawberry shake. We paid Php 700.00 but its worth, the croc adobado is Php 300/. We were really satisfied on our dinner.
We went back to the hotel after dinner for us to take enough rest of a long and enjoyable day. We ask the hotel staff to reserve us to dinner for the 3rd night at Ka Lui since reservation is really needed. I slept early but my husband continue watching the Australian Open  Tennis Championship Game. Tommorow is another interesting Island Hopping.

Honda Bay Tour

It's Monday Morning, we woke up early and prepared for our Honda Bay Tour... Pick up time is 7AM so we took our breakfast at the hotel. When our tour guide arrived to fetch us, we are still eating so we need to hurry. We were 7 in the group 2 were from sweden and the 3 balikbayans from US. Out tour guide Jake and driver Nonoy. Jake had a very good sense of humor.
The travel time is shorter compared to the Underground River. We arrived in the Santa Lourdes wharf at 8:00 AM, we bought bread for fish feeding activity later. The lunch were already brought since we will be eating in one of the Islands. Also we rented for a snorkelling gear set along the way for Php 150.00 /set. There are also camera case for underwater for rent, but we did not rent since our camera is also underwater.

Honda Bay is consist of several islets with shallow reefs white sand beaches which have become the favorite swimming, snorkelling, and diving destinations. These islets are the Cannon (Cowrie) Island, Bat Island, Lu-Ii Island (derived from the word ""lulubog-lilitaw"", meaning floating and sinking island, is visible only during low tide), Meara Marina, Starfish Island (known for its fine white sand and clear water that teems with starfish), Snake Island (an island with a long stretch of fine white sand shaped like a snake), Pandan Island, and Senorita Island (the breeding site of lapu-lapu fish).
On our tour we will be visiting two islands the Pandan Island and the Snake Island and also the Pamabato Reef.
Pandan Island
We rode on a pumpboat for 40 minutes, the waves are calm and water is so blue since the plan is from farthest island to nearest. Our first destination is the Pandan Island. . It's names comes from Pandan Plant (giant one) not the one that we are using for buko pandan. This kind of Pandan is a tree type, the branches have thorns and it's leave's fibers are used in making native weaved items like hats, mats and etc.
The island is developed, there are cottages and modern facilities with toilet. When we arrived a lady approaches us that she is selling crabs. Wow I want to buy fresh crabs but I have an allergy and I was not able to bring my antihistamine with me...hehehe...
We will be staying in the island for 2 1/2 hours so we decided to do picture taking, snorkelling, fish feeding and swimming. We put sunblock and brought our camera, tripod, snorkels and breads for fish feeding. While walking we saw a star fish, took a picture of it and enjoyed posing with that starfishes.
We took lot of pictures and also underwater pictures. We really enjoyed the bluish water, white sand and coastline. The view of the beach and the sky is breathtakingly beautiful.
At 11:00 AM our lunch was prepared and designed by our guide, Jake. We had grilled fish, pork adobo, Boiled vegetables (Talong and Okra), steamed shrimps, banana and our companion bought crabs from the Ale. Wow another sumptous lunch for us. I just ate little amount of crabs (sipit lang) and shrimps coz I was not able to bring medicine... Hay!!! But it's ok at least I've eaten naman. After lunch our next destination...
Snake Island
The next  destination is the Snake Island, there no snakes in the Island though the name  is snake. It was named Snake island because of its long sand bar (about 3 kms long) which looked like a giant white sea snake from the sky. The mangroves or  the bakawan grew on the other part of the island. I really enjoyed watching that the other side is beach and the other have mangroves. Anyway, there are  picnic cottages in the Island but the facilities are limitted. There are halo halo being sold here. We again brought our snorkels and bread for fish feeding as well as our underwater camera. Crystal Clear waters, fresh air and lot of  fishes(mostly talakitok) can be experienced in this Island. The fishes are tamed and can be found even in the shallow part of the water. We took pictures and  really enjoyed that there are too manu fishes and sometimes in the picture we  cannot see our face because bunch of fishes blocked us. There is a part of the island where even we go too far it is still shallow, we continue to enjoy taking pictures and the sceneries are amazing. This is indeed a wonderful experience  for us.
Picture
Pambato Reef
Our last destination for our Honda Bay Tour is the Pambato Reef the mini Tubbataha Reef. It is like a floating flatform with a roof of a sea turtle(pawikan) on the middle of the bay. This is the reef conservation project of Honda bay management and ABS CBN. Fish feeding here is not allowed and this area is protected by the Bantay Dagat. There are many coral reefs, fishes and marine creatures in the protected area and use of life jacket is compulsory. When we snorkell here we were not able to take underwater pictures because of the current. We need to get back to the floating cottage thru rope pulled by the Bantay Dagat. I was not able to enjoy the snorkelling but my experience here is unforgettable.
We were heading back to the wharf after the Pambato reef. Travel time is 20 minutes from Pambato Reef to the wharf. We again take the van and back to the city at 2:30 PM

Puerto Princessa City Tour

Picture
Upon our way back to the city after our Honda Bay Tour  Jake our guide informed us that we will be able to catch our City Tour. We were not able to took a bath and change clothes. We were still wearing our swimming outfit, we will be dropped near Noki Noks and the other van will be fetching us to bring us to the Crocodile Farm. We thought that we can change clothes there but unfortunately when we arrive there the van was already there.
Me and my husband was in the van (3rd seat), he ask me "Cowgirl ka naman di ba? Dito ka na magpalit. Etong towel", in short we change our clothes without taking a bath after swimming in the bay. And we were smiling to experience changing clothes in the van. We will be joining the group in the Crocodile Farm, the tour started earlier but we are fortunate that they went to the cathedral and the tiange where we were able to go last night.

Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center / Crocodile Farm
Our first destination on our City tour is the Palawan Crocodile Farm or the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center. Here we've seen a breeding facilities for crocodiles. From Baby Crocodile to Adult Crocodile. There are tubs of different aged crocodiles, another tub for the crocodiles with disability or abnormalities. Fresh water and Salt Water Crocodiles can be found here. We took pictures of the large crocodiles but we see to it that our camera or other things will not fall because we will not be able to get it...
We had also an opportunity to have picture taking with Palawan Binturong and baby crocodiles. Crocodile Sisig in the canteen was being sold but we did not buy because we were able to try crocodile the other night.

Mitra Ranch
Our next destination is the Mitra Ranch, a Ranch owned by former Sen. Ramon Mitra. The house was shaped like pyramid  or triangular built in the highland. It is sorrounded by green grasses  and there is a viewdeck over looking of panoramic view of Honda Bay and Sulu Sea. For now zipline is available, but since we had no enough time we did not try this. But we never miss the opportunity to have picture taking of the view as well as we do Jump Shots... We just stayed here for 20 minutes

Picture
Baker's Hill
The next destination is the famous Baker's Hill  is known to have delicious baked pastries such as Chocolate Crinkles, Hopia (Ube, monggo and baboy), Cakes and other pastries. And take note the price is cheaper compared to other known Hopia (40-45 every box of 10). Baker’s Hill is like a kiddie wonderland filled with fiberglass sculptures adapted from popular Disney characters and other known characters. There are lots of photo opportunities with the characters, as well as the view. There are also animals present like birds, parrots, peacock, snakes and many more. There are many different themed areas for picture taking. What really amazed me is the broomstick design which looks amazing(see the picture), also the heart shaped bench and the fresh flowers being used as air freshener. We bought chocolate cake and hopia for pasalubong. Then we tried the chocolate caramel cake slice for only Php 20/slice. It's so yummy!!! We did enjoy our visit to baker's hill.

Picture
Binuatan Creations
Our last destination for the city tour is the Binuatan Creations, Binuatan is Cuyonin (Palawan's Dialect) for Creation.
They create or made handloom wooven products from Palawan's indigenous fibers. Wooven products like table runners, placemats, bags, wallets, curtains, wall hangers, pouches and other alike. The creations are colorful and beautiful which will encourage you to buy. We were able to buy a ref magnet (our favorite souvenir) and coin purse...
We also had the opportunity to try the actual weaving, in their handloom weaving showroom. They tought us how to do it. We did enjoy that we learn something new and of course photo taking opportunities in the Binuatan Creations.

We finished the city tour at around 6:30 PM, we went back to the hotel to take a short rest since we had reservation at Ka Lui in the evening (8:30 PM).

Dinner at Ka Lui

At around 7:45 PM we decided  to go back to Tiangge to buy pasalubong and after that we went to KaLui for our dinner reservation.
When we enter the place we are amazed by the native wooden  house setting. The ambiance is so peaceful and the decoration features different fruits and vegetables. There are false and true decor like banana, red pepper, guyabano, garlic and a lot more. The floor is well polished and clean and barefoot is necessary. Footwear are left in the locker or basket before entering the restaurant. The ambiance is so romantic and it's fine dining time. Reservation is also necessary since there are lot of people who wants to dine at KaLui.We were seated in a table for 2. There are tables for family and also a table where you will be seated on a comfy pillow on the floor. Their specialty here is SEAFOODS....
We ordered for KaLui Special of the Day Set which includes Fish Steak(tanigue), Prawns, Veggies of the Day (kangkong), Steamed fish with mango sauce (Lapu lapu), rice and starters (lato). Also the Season's bestseller the Tubbataha Salad  includes fresh tuna strips, bits of fruits (pineapple, pomelo, mango, and papaya), lato with Palawan Dressing. Buko Shake and Watermelon shake for our drinks and fresh fruits with muscovado in buko shell for dessert. We really did enjoy the food and with everything we ordered we just paid Php 800.00 only.
We also take the opportunity to take pictures on the place and we really did enjoyed our dinner date at KaLui... I'm so happy that this was recommended to us and it was such a wonderful experience for us.
We really did enjoy our dinner at KaLui. We went back to the hotel and prepare our things for our trip will be finished the next day.
Early the next day we prepared early, and of course this day is my labs 32nd birthday. I gave him a big hug and kiss while greeting him a Happy Birthday. We took our breakfast on the hotel's rest area. We decided to go to the airport ealier. Our flight time is 10:00AM, the hotel service brought us to the airport. We check in and the terminal fee is only Php 40.00. We waited for our boarding time but again our plane is delayed due to late arrival of the turn around aircraft, we're thankful that the delay is just 30 minutes.
We arrived in Manila at around 11:30 AM. Our trip in Palawan is one of the best trips we had since we experience too many unique moments. This experience also makes my Labs birthday so special... With these experiences, we can say that our bond became stronger and we are motivated to continue discovering the beauty of our country, Philippines...
Hope that this blog can help you... Thank you for reading though super haba... hehhee
